The Babies, Business + Breakfast™ Mini Mastermind Program

Introducing a mastermind program designed with yours and your child’s needs at the top of the priority list. Not as an afterthought!

Focused on creating connections to help you make the progress you desire in a safe and inclusive space.

Spend time with the ones you love while investing in yourself.

A 90-day ‘sprint’/12-week trimester for parents.

You’re a parent with a passion project you’ve been putting off for far too long.

You have the ideas and the burning desire but you haven’t found the time (or space) to move it forward as much as you’d like to.

Children are noisy, vibrant, curious, loving, challenging, adaptable, relentless, inspiring and while your days are filled with the ins and outs of your new and ever-changing routine, they’re a bit empty when it comes to filling your own cup.

You’re doing great at using your newfound parental powers to get through the physical, mental and emotional marathon of looking after little ones.

You’re loving life but at the end of the day, there isn’t much time leftover for you.

Parenting is non-stop 24/7 and while you knew it would be a demanding role, what you weren’t quite prepared for was the…feelings of isolation.

Nobody told you about…

The sudden bursts of inspiration and creativity you’d experience while feeding your baby, only to lack a pen or paper (or free hands!) to write anything down.

The challenges of setting (without forgetting) your goals and the feeling of sharing them with another open-minded adult.

The difficulties finding events and opportunities which fit into your new schedule and are child-friendly (hello-crack-of-dawn-breakfasts and evening meet-ups, we’re looking at you).

The feelings of loneliness, isolation and frankly, trying to get any sort of feedback on your ideas from someone other than your own family members who prefer to play peekaboo, show you their sweet block tower or demand the umpteenth snack of the day.

It can be lonely out there.

Stimulating conversation. Remembering your pre-kid interests. Meeting people you have things in common with (other than your ability to procreate). 🤣

Free play group drop-ins are great…for the kids.
Story time at the library is awesome…for the kids.
Climbing play structures at the local park is fun…for the kids.

Coffee catch ups and activities can break up your solo time with the kids.

Physical and emotional self-care can help with the aches and pains of parenthood.

But what about your intellectual self-care and mental health?

You want to discuss your business, side gig, seeds of an idea or the niggling feeling you need to shift gears in your career.

Who can you turn to – besides your family, friends (or pet) – and have they done the things you want to do?

You want to work on your business plan/career change/learn how to code/write that book.

When will you find the motivation and create the time for it and who is checking in on your progress?

You want to go out to meet other people like you, discuss things other than your kid(s) and focus on your needs but you are also their primary caregiver.

Where can you go to invest in yourself without having to feel like you’re inconveniencing other non-parents or worry you’re the only person who brought along your child?

You don’t need a break. You need a supportive environment to focus on improving yourself without having to sacrifice time with your children or source flexible childcare.

Amy Maureen Lynch - Impact Academy After spending the better part of a decade as a freelance and remote worker in Australia, Ireland, and England, I returned to Canada with a newfound motivation to address the isolation I sometimes faced as a working expat and new parent.
Determined to maintain a sense of self while looking after my first son (2016) and preparing to give birth to my second son (2018), I often sought out networking and professional development opportunities but was surprised by a lack of inclusive spaces with baby change facilities and parent-friendly event times.
Some of the things I have brought my sons to, which are usually seen as traditionally adult-only events include:
💸 Pitching to investors, accelerator programs, advisors and potential business partners for feedback (while wearing a baby in a carrier/ breastfeeding/rocking them in my arms or feeding my toddler snacks/giving them toys to play with and using my diaper bag as a laptop bag to share my pitch deck in between diaper changes).
📈 Presenting to workshop participants, special guests and complete strangers (while doing all of the above with a newborn baby and/or toddler).
💼 Interviewing for a corporate mat leave contract alongside my at the time, 15-month-old son (which I’m proud to say I was offered, happily accepted and recently completed, while growing my second baby).
📅 Business workshops about cash flow, income tax, business models and legal structures (where I alternated wheeling my kiddos into the venue in a stroller, carried in a car seat or wore them in a baby carrier and proceeded to feed them breakfast, breastfeed and keep them occupied with toys during early morning sessions starting between 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.).
🎨 Creative Mornings Ottawa events (again, baby carrier, stroller and all of the above to listen and be inspired) and the list goes on.

Amy Lynch - Campus for Mums 2016 London England

My first son at four months old (on the boob) and I, at a Google for Startups program in London, England in 2016, chatting to a YouTube employee about problem solving.

I was one of 35 founders (who also happen to be parents) who participated in a Google for Startups program in London, England after my first son was born in 2016.

When we started this 10-week program, my son was seven weeks old and over the course of the next few months, we got to meet other parents and their children who were also pursuing business ideas, networking and professional development alongside parenthood.

Before my son’s first birthday in 2017, we relocated to Ottawa and I participated in an online Parentpreneur Startup Accelerator program, where I set out to make more space for local primary caregivers who also wanted to invest in themselves alongside their children.

My second son at three months old and I attending StartUp Canada Day On The Hill in 2018.

Babies, Business + Breakfast™ is the result, a pilot program for parent-friendly professional development, aiming to improve parental mental health and accessibility of professional spaces across the city.

Since mid-2018, I’ve been working on a pilot program to help other Ottawa-area parents invest in themselves alongside their children, because I believe everyone deserves to design and create a life that works for them and their family.

My ‘parentpreneur’ activism resulted in the first-ever baby change table being installed in a non-gender washroom at 7 Bayview Yards, the home of Invest Ottawa and the city’s Innovation Hub, which brings services and support to entrepreneurs under one roof.

After starting a newsletter, participating in Ottawa’s Impact Academy, undertaking a bit of ‘parentpreneur’ activism and hosting a focus group in 2018, I am continuing to work toward a future in which parenthood and professional development don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

Join me for the introductory round of the Babies, Business + Breakfast™ Mini Mastermind, a 90-day ‘sprint’/12-week trimester for parents, starting on Friday, March 15th, 2019 and wrapping up on Friday, May 31st, 2019.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1) Do I need to have a business or business idea to register for the program?

Not necessarily, you could have a business idea, an existing business, a creative project you would like to complete or a career change you’ve been thinking of. We are designing our mastermind program for parents who want to invest in themselves alongside their children – that is our primary aim and focus, to make it as barrier-free and accessible as possible for you as a parent. According to Napoleon Hill: “The Mastermind principle consists of an alliance of two or more minds working in perfect harmony for the attainment of a common definite objective. Success does not come without the cooperation of others.”

The idea is for you to commit to showing up every week for 12 weeks (virtually) when I check in with you and update us on your progress, challenges and need for feedback. Then we will meet face-to-face 3 times (once per month) over the course of the 12 weeks, to come together, get inspired, collaborate and support one another. You will also benefit from the 1:1 advice of an industry expert, specifically chosen for you based on your needs and the major outcome you have chosen to focus on during the 90 day sprint. And most importantly, you and your children will feel welcome in a safe and inclusive space, surrounded by a group of like-minded peers and industry experts who want to see you succeed.

2) How do I register for the program?

Select one of the yellow ‘Buy Now’ buttons above and use the dropdown menu to choose your preferred program option. The Regular Program ($240 CAD) includes all of the above with three face-to-face monthly breakfast events or the Online-Only Program ($180 CAD) is facilitated remotely and detailed below. Payments are taken securely online via PayPal with your PayPal account, Credit Card or VISA Debit Card.

Once your payment has been processed, you will receive an email from PayPal which will include your receipt and my business information (Amy Lynch t/a Her Best Life Publishing) and you will be redirected from this page to a ‘Thank You’ webpage which will link to an online intake form, where we ask for yours and your children(s) information to assist with program facilitation.

I will also follow up with an email linking to the online intake form for you to fill out in your own time, in case you miss it or have to register in a hurry in between nap/snack/play time! We know how it is.

3) Can I pay using an email money transfer?

If you would like to register but do not want to pay using PayPal, Credit Card or VISA Debit Card, please contact us with your request to use an email money transfer using this website’s contact form: amymaureenlynch.com/contact. We will issue you an invoice with details for a bank transfer/email money transfer within 72 hours and will provide you with a receipt once payment has been received, following the steps detailed above.

4) When and where will the face-to-face events be held?

The three face-to-face monthly events will be held in Ottawa, ON, Canada (venues to be confirmed based on participant numbers) on the last Wednesday of each month during mid-morning.

The dates are scheduled as follows:
Wednesday, March 27th, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. (EST)
Wednesday, April 24th, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. (EST)
Wednesday, May 29th, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. (EST)

5) Can I bring my kid(s) to the monthly events?

Yes, please do! On-site childcare will be provided as requested during the initial registration process and is included in the overall Regular Program cost ($240 CAD). Please provide the number and ages of your children at the time of registration, as the primary caregiver you are required to stay on-site at all times. Childcare requests are required a minimum of two weeks prior to each event and as such, we will contact all participants in advance of the events to confirm your childcare preferences.

6) Will you provide catering options for dietary restrictions?

Dietary restrictions can be detailed in the online intake form upon registration and will also be required to be updated a minimum of two weeks prior to each event. We will contact participants to confirm dietary restrictions at the same time as we check on your childcare preferences.

7) Is it possible to sign up for individual events?

No, at this stage we are only offering two options. They will be held over 12 weeks from March 15th, 2019 to May 31st, 2019: Regular Program ($240 CAD) or an Online-Only Program ($180 CAD). We have designed the program this way to provide accountability and attract a group of parents who would like to come together monthly, during a ‘trimester’ (three months), to focus on a specific outcome of their choosing with the support of industry experts, while building new parenthood and business relationships in an inclusive space. After the initial Spring 2019 cohort, if there is a strong demand for individual events we will explore it but for now, we’re keeping it simple with two options for those who would like to participate.

8) What if I can’t make the monthly events in person?

We still want you to sign up! If you believe you will be unable to make the monthly events, don’t despair. You can select the Online-Only Program ($180 CAD) which includes everything listed above in the Regular Program ($240 CAD), except for the face-to-face monthly event costs, which include venue booking, catering and optional on-site childcare.

9) How does the ‘online only’ program option work?

The Online-Only Program ($180 CAD) includes everything (12 x weekly email check-ins, 3 x monthly guest speakers at the events and a 1:1 coaching session), except it is provided virtually. You will be asked to send in your questions and progress updates 48 hours in advance of each monthly scheduled face-to-face event to share with the featured guest speaker and other mastermind participants. You will receive a unique webinar URL 48 hours in advance of each event, so you can log on to listen remotely to the speaker, other participants’ updates and feedback on your progress. Sessions won’t be recorded for privacy purposes but if there is demand for this feature we will work to make it happen!

10) How do we access the 1:1 coaching?

Please indicate the topic or problem you need the most assistance with and we will match you up with an industry expert in that field who can accommodate your personal preferences. The program includes one session offered over a one hour period and can be used in person at a mutually agreed upon location and time, over the phone or via video call, depending on yours and your family’s needs.

11) My kid(s) is on the ‘inside’ at the moment and I will be pregnant during the Spring 2019 cohort. Can I still come?

Yes, you are more than welcome!
We are trying to design a program specifically for you and all parents are welcome.

12) I’m not sure if this is the right time for me, how do I find out more?

Join our live 30-minute webinar on Friday, January 25th, 2019 at 10 a.m. (EST) where we will address your questions live! Details are above but if you can’t attend live, please send your questions 24 hours in advance via this website’s contact form: amymaureenlynch.com/contact.

13) I’m not a parent but I’m interested in participating in your program, how do I get involved?

This program is for parents only, as we have found they are a marginalized group when it comes to currently available business, entrepreneurship and professional development programming. Some venues and organizations are adapting to become more inclusive and equitable as an add-on but we would like to start with that criteria in mind. Please check your local startup, accelerator, coworking, meetup and business networking spaces and events as they most likely have something designed to suit your needs!

14) I want to support your program as opposed to participate in it, how do I get involved?

Please get in touch with us to discuss partnership, sponsorship or guest speaking opportunities via this website’s contact form: amymaureenlynch.com/contact.

15) What’s your cancellation/refund policy?

You’re a parent, we’re a parent – we understand, life happens! We’d love to work with you to help in your personal circumstance and will do our best to accommodate you and your family.

If you’re cancelling because you’re dealing with a family issue (illness, medical) we can offer you a full refund less an administration fee of $20 CAD, or we can carry your payment and registration forward to a future Babies, Business + Breakfast™ Mini Mastermind cohort in Summer 2019 or Autumn 2019 (dates to be confirmed).

If you’re cancelling for a different reason, such as “I’ve changed my mind”, “I don’t know if I can do it”, “I’m not sure if I want to invest in myself anymore”, then you will not receive a refund. This is a firm policy but we would like to soften it a bit and offer you a pep talk before your 90-day sprint starts in order to help you work through those thoughts and prepare for the program, pressure-free! All you need to do is show up, give your best and be willing to ask for help. If either of these situations applies to you, please get in touch with us and provide the details of your request via this website’s contact form: amymaureenlynch.com/contact.
